Crown Ducal
Crown Ducal was the trade name chose by Gordon Pottery to market their earthen dinnerware. Albert G. Richardson founded Gordon Pottery in 1915 in Tunstall, an area known as The Potteries.
Crown Ducal made itself known mostly for the floral designs in its dinnerware. Many of their patterns showed flowers not only in the colourful lithograph transfers but also in the embossed rims in the background colour way with no added colouring.
In 1933, Gordon Pottery purchased the Britannia Pottery in Cobridge, which they greatly redesigned and expanded.
Despite the challenges of World Was II, Crown Ducal continued producing dinnerware albeit by consolidating its operations in one location. After the war the company reopened the production of dinnerware in its two locations. They continued offering earthenware until 1974, when the company was sold to Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Ltd and was subsequently closed.
