Royal Worcester

Royal Worcester is one of the oldest English makers of porcelain and china dinnerware, starting in 1751 in Worcester, England. Its success was such that in 1788 the company received a royal warrant and carried the name “Royal Porcelain Works”. The company changed hands many time over the last two centuries. Despite this, it flourished through most of the 1800’s.

Like many of its competitors it languished in the 1900’s, especially after WW2, with higher costs and lower prices. In 1976, Royal Worcester merged with Spode. Eventually, financial difficulties forced the merged company to cease in 2009. At that point Portmeiron purchased the intellectual rights of the company and continue selling china under the Royal Worcester name.
